About this identification

Ferns cloak the trunk, but the host's own large, paddle-shaped leaves and the blanket of orange-brown fallen leaves around its root flare identify it as a ketapang rather than the fern-draped rain tree nearby.

Identified from photographs of bark, leaves, fallen litter and epiphytes against the Malaysian campus-tree flora. Moderate and tentative records would be settled by a close-up of flowers or fruit.
