About this identification

At close zoom the crown shows rounded, drooping leaves, several with the shallow two-lobed outline unique to Bauhinia, over a carpet of shed leaves. The species is most likely the purple orchid tree Bauhinia purpurea; a front view of a flower would settle the species.

Identified from photographs of bark, leaves, fallen litter and epiphytes against the Malaysian campus-tree flora. Moderate and tentative records would be settled by a close-up of flowers or fruit.
